Це перша цілісна біографія Івана Вовчука (1902–1979) – націоналіста зі Сходу України, соратника Степана Бандери та Романа Шухевича. Вовчук був однією з найвпливовіших осіб у середовищі українських націоналістів та серед української діаспори, і навіть мав вплив на американський Конгрес.  

?Постать Вовчука впевнено розвінчує одразу декілька антиукраїнських міфів, створених і нав’язаних Кремлем.

Найперше – розбиває міф про те, що українські націоналісти нібито були антисемітами. У часи німецької окупації він врятував у Нікополі єврейську сім’ю. Ізраїльський Меморіальний комплекс історії Голокосту 'Яд Вашем' посмертно визнав цього українського націоналіста, заступника Бандери, 'Праведником народів світу'. 

Крім того, руйнує радянський міф про закоріненість українського націоналізму виключно на теренах Заходу України. Вовчук народився на Полтавщині, вчився у Харкові, працював директором школи у Нікополі та був опозиційно налаштований до радянської влади.

Через репресії окупаційної радянської влади змушений був емігрувати: спершу до Мюнхена, пізніше – до США. Він став тереновим провідником ОУН у США, очолив Організацію Оборони Чотирьох Свобід України. Був головним редактором газети 'Національна трибуна' у Нью-Йорку. Заснував у Нью-Йорку Український Народний Університет.

Іван Вовчук - сильний оратор та публіцист. Його яскраві цитати: 'України не можна вижебрати, її можна лише вибороти!' (1950 р.); 'На кого нам орієнтуватися: на Схід чи на Захід. Закликаю орієнтуватися на Україну' (1946 р.); 'Трагедія нашого суспільства — це перебільшені амбіції при малій амуніції' (1974 р.). 

До цього часу про Івана Вовчука знали в Україні дуже мало. Автор книжки Олег Проценко буквально по крупинках, з різних архівних джерел в Україні та США, збирав відомості про життя героя та вбудував його біографію в детальну історію України ХХ століття. 

Автору вдалось встановити десятки історичних фактів, які до цього часу не були відомими. Наприклад, вперше у цій книжці опубліковано листування Івана Вовчука та Степана Бандери.
