The red figure small calyx crater is a faithful reproduction of a Paestum original vase dating back to approximately 330 BCE, meticulously crafted in the Asteas-Python Workshop. The original was sold by Royal Athena Galleries (Product number PK0998, priced at $14,500).
This masterful piece bears a captivating design, with one side featuring a seated young satyr amidst stylized florals, adorned with unique attire and accessories (emvades - boots), holding a thyrsos and a "skewer of fruit." On the opposite side, a nude youth exudes timeless elegance, with a graceful posture and an artful connection to nature.
