Libec ZC-8 Compact Zoom Remote Control: Precision Command for 8-Pin Canon & Fujinon Servo Lenses

In professional broadcast television, electronic news gathering (ENG), outside sports broadcasting, and studio production, control over framing must be continuous and steady. Reaching up to manually turn a camera’s lens ring mid-shot introduces physical vibrations and breaks an operator's concentration.

The Libec ZC-8 is a broadcast-grade, ultra-compact zoom remote control designed specifically to mount directly onto your tripod head’s pan bar or handle. Interfacing via an industry-standard 8-pin connector protocol, this tactical control unit provides operators with fluid, precise, variable-speed command over professional Canon and Fujinon servo-driven zoom lenses.

1. Universal 8-Pin Servo Cross-Compatibility

Broadcast equipment environments utilize different lens standards. The ZC-8 is engineered to smoothly step into this workflow with an integrated 8-pin circular plug connection. It features dedicated internal signal translation circuitry that makes it fully compatible with both major professional lens formats:

  • Fujinon ENG / Studio Servo Lenses (8-Pin communication ports)

  • Canon ENG / Studio Servo Lenses (8-Pin communication ports)

2. Variable-Speed Fluid Zoom Rocker Switch

The core functionality of the ZC-8 relies on its responsive rocker switch design.

  • Proportional Control Mechanics: Rather than offering a rigid, single-speed zoom, the rocker switch measures the physical pressure applied by the operator's thumb. A light touch produces a creeping, slow television zoom for emotional framing, while pressing the rocker fully drives a rapid focal transition to track sudden sporting action.

  • Directional Reverse Switch: The housing integrates a tactile physical toggle that allows operators to instantly reverse the directional parameters of the rocker (flipping wide-angle and telephoto tilt orientations) to suit individual user preferences.

3. Remote Record (REC) Start/Stop & Return (RET) Functions

To streamline solo operator workflows, the ZC-8 serves as a central control hub, placing vital broadcast parameters directly under your thumb:

  • REC Start/Stop Control: Features a dedicated, tactile record button that communicates natively with the camera body via the lens servo, allowing you to trigger recording without reaching for the camera chassis.

  • Return Video (RET) Mode: Pressing the return function permits the camera operator to view the return video feed from the switcher/control room directly through the viewfinder, ensuring precise timing on live multi-camera broadcasts.

4. Heavy-Duty Universal Tripod Clamp

Designed to integrate into existing grip setups without requiring specialized modifications, the ZC-8 features a robust mechanical screw-clamp array:

  • Wide Clamping Diameter Threshold: Securely fastens to any tubular surface ranging from 9.91 mm to 44.96 mm (0.39" to 1.77").

  • Multi-Platform Deployment: While optimized to clamp rigidly onto standard tripod fluid head pan handles, its versatile grip footprint means it can be safely locked onto crane weight bars, camera jib arms, jib control frames, stabilizer handles, and field monopods.

5. Rugged, Light-Weight All-Weather Build

  • Ultra-Compact Profile: Measuring just 6.9 x 5.1 cm (2.7" x 2.0") and weighing a mere 0.17 kg (0.37 lbs), it adds negligible mass to your pan bar, preserving the native counter-balance properties of your fluid head.

  • All-Weather Resilience: Sealed to protect against the rigors of field reporting, the internal electronics function seamlessly within a wide operating environment threshold of -10°C to +40°C (14°F to 104°F).

  • Optimal Cable Length: Outfitted with a heavy-duty, highly insulated 0.7-meter (2.3 feet) cable, providing plenty of length to route cleanly along your pan handle without causing loose cable snags.

Reduced Connecting To Desk Setup from four plugins to one.
Style: 8-in-1 USB-C Hub
Works great! Plugged in Ethernet, HDMI, USB-C power, and a USB-A Hub containing KBD,Mouse, two phone chargers, and worked first try without any configuring. Now only one plug to connect when the laptop is brought to the desk. Perfect!

Lots of slots to power devices all at once
Style: 7-in-1 USB-C Hub
Well made, good price, outlets precision sized so cords don't droop or fall out. Overall about as a compact as it could be. Enough power to plug into iPad and power phone, hearing aid charging box , and AA battery 4 slot charger. Worth paying a little more for more slots.

Be aware of bad units being sold right now.
Style: 4-in-1 USB-C Hub
These USED to be a 5 star product from me, I've lost count how many I have purchased and included built into my products I manufacture. All of 2025 NO ISSUES at all, battle tested in the photo event industry buy some very large companies I have as clients. Come 2026 and the last two batch orders I have purchased I have had to replace 10 of them within a 2 month window, all for different customers because they stopped working in a short amount of time. Something happened in the Belkin manufacturing of these hubs in the past 3 months and I have lost my confidence in the stock that is available right now, I have moved to another HUB manufacturer for my products. I even tried calling Belkin quietly to make them aware of this issue and could not get anyone who cared that they had bad units being sold. So now it's to be very public about this issue and to let people know to be aware there ARE bad units in circulation of these hubs. ALWAYS have a backup on hand just in case! Sorry Belkin, you need to have a better process to receive feedback from other manufacturers that use your products in theirs. I hope I can regain confidence again someday.

This hubs got what I need and drives seem to mount right away.
Style: 5-in-1 USB-C Hub
Might be a little early to write this review. But, I feel like I keep buying these types of hubs and they never seem to have the right configuration for what I need. Two USB-Cs, Two USBs and an HDMI. Appreciate that the ports are all on the same side so I don't have a spider web of cables going in every direction. They all fit rather snugly. MOST IMPORTANTLY, every external drive and flash drive seems to mount right away. I have had major frustrations over the years with external drives not mounting or taking forever to mount. I'm sure most of this is due to the failing drives themselves, but I have a sneaking suspicion the hubs are playing a role too, but I don't have the electrical engineering degree to prove it. Anyway, so far so good with this one.
