The Pennine Way: A Walker’s Guide is an amazingly detailed route description of the Pennine Way from Edale to Kirk Yetholm, which with spectacular photographs, provides an ideal companion to Ordnance Survey maps of the trail.

The route description is divided into 19 daily sections, each with a photograph capturing an essence of that day’s walk. Highlighted in the text are points of interest plus snippets of both current and historical information.

The book contains a unique insight into the trail’s history. It includes minutes of the 1938 Conference which took Tom Stephenson’s inspiration forward, and led to the creation of National Parks and Long Distance Footpaths.

This book will whet the taste buds of individuals or groups intending to walk the trail; those wanting to muse over a past Pennine Way journey; or readers who may never walk it but have a genuine interest in the footpath.

The diverse landscapes encountered along this backbone of England, the seasonal variations, plus the physical and mental challenge make the Pennine Way, in the author’s opinion, Britain’s finest National Trail.

About the Author

Chris Sainty’s passion with the Pennine Way (PW) began at college where he developed an interest in walking. In September 1975 he set off from Kirk Yetholm, but blisters at Alston forced him to retire on that occasion.

However, a seed was sown, and in April 1977 he completed the full route from Edale to Kirk Yetholm. Since then, Chris has walked the PW a further 9 times either as a single journey, or in sections to cover the full distance.

Chris became Secretary of the Pennine Way Council (PWA) in 1981, aged 26, and held this post until 2002. He was Editor of the Pennine Way Association’s newsletter for 8 years, and elected Chair in 2008, and again in 2013.

Our dogs hurt their mouths chewing these bones
Color: Purple & Blue
I don't do a lot of reviews because I realize many are objective opinions. However, in this case I felt it was necessary to warn others. Our dogs are aggressive chewers. Their last rubber bones (not these) which we've purchased before, and recently purchased again, were destroyed quickly. Chunks of rubber came off the ends. Since those didn't hold up like they used to, I found these harder bones hoping they would last longer. They were able to gnaw into the hard plastic within a few minutes. This created sharp edges that cut their mouths. When I saw a bit of blood on the bones, I took them away from the dogs and threw them away. I wondered why they quit chewing on them after being so excited at first. Also, these are hard enough to damage a tooth.

Pups have shown zero interest in these toys….
Color: Purple & Blue
I would agree that these are indestructible being neither of my dogs have shown any interest in these at all. At this rate they should last forever…

Durable but losses interest
Color: Purple & Blue
My dog is an aggressive chewer. She was interested in this toy while it was new, but soon after lost interest. Good news is although it took a beating it did not break or splinter. If soppy toys are disposable in your house, give it a try.

Still squeaking after all these days!
Size: Jumbo, Style: Beef
My power chewer GSPs usually wreck all "tough" toys in less than an hour, especially if they squeak. These seem pricey but I can say it's held up really well. After about three weeks, it's still hanging in there! The stripes are worn off but the squeaker still squeaks and that's what it's all about.
