The Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 G is a sleek and wide-eyed prime lens characterized by its portability, advanced optical design, and intuitive handling. The optical design incorporates a pair of aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements to greatly reduce a variety of aberrations and distortion. A Nano AR Coating has also been applied to further reduce surface reflections and flare for improved contrast when working in bright and backlit conditions. The lens also has a dust- and moisture-sealed design, along with a fluorine coating, to support shooting in inclement conditions. Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture suits working in difficult lighting conditions and helps to maintain a relatively compact form factor. Three extra-low dispersion elements reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy. The dual XD Linear Motor system provides quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance and also contributes to more natural, intuitive manual focus control. An AF/MF switch is located on the lens barrel for tactile control over this setting. Dust- and moisture-sealed design better permits working in inclement conditions and rubberized control rings benefit handling in colder temperatures. The rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.
